Forget it

Forget about impact.

Forget about passion.

Forget about titles.

Forget about significance.

The only thing that matters is doing the work.

Day by day.

Hour by hour.

Minute by minute.

Do the work, put your head to the grindstone, and hustle.

Because there are no get rich quick schemes. Except doing the work.

Hang Up Your Hat

You know all the hats your wearing. Well it’s time now to take a couple of more off.

Yes that’s right – now is the time to hang a few of them up.

Either that or get someone else to wear them.

You only have one head (stop stacking hat upon hat on top of it). Find the one that fits best and rock it.

Do the Right Thing

Always, always, always do the right thing. Especially when you think no one is looking.

It says more about your character than most any other attribute.
Personally I have a rule to make it super simple for me to remain on track. If he violates my trust with God, my family, or my team I don’t do it.

I may think it’s right for me but it may not be right for that this simple rule enables to avoid unnecessary moral/emotional conflict.

Define it, Understand it

Anxious is defined as: Experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

I’ve come to realize the anxiousness I feel is related more to my rehearsing, repeating, and anticipating a negative outcome. One likely not to even ever occur.

Intellectually I know worry is a waste of time and energy. Robbing me of being present and creative.

In its most basic form I’ve developed a very bad habit of worrying – to the point of even calling myself a worrier.  Such craziness!

Well no more. I’m choosing to evolve and create a new habit of being present. Because you can’t worry and be present at the same time.

A Perfect Death

What do all these things have in common:

Photographs, records, film, camera, VCR, CD, taxi, and flashlights

They were all considered to be perfect at sometime and are now forever gone (or will be soon).

I’m sure you can think of several more things that are/were perfect.

The point is once something is thought to be perfect it’s demise will be on the horizon.

The pace at which technology and society is advancing doesn’t allow for perfect to exist.

Now I ask you, “What’s perfect in your life that you can’t do without?”

Whatever it is either you that you destroy it, making something better, or someone else will come and do it for you.

Don’t believe me. Take a closer look at how and what some of your favorite companies have done to evolve and survive:

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Apple, Uber, Amazon, and Google

I beg of you don’t die a perfect death.

Curveball

Be ready for the curveballs being thrown at you. Get into the batting cages and practice hitting the fastballs too.

Knowing when to swing or hold back is a skill you can develop. Just like in life you have to be prepared for the unexpected.

The more diligent you are about disrupting youself the easier it’ll be to hit those curveballs right out of the park.

Reassessing

“Losers have goals. Winners have systems.” -Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert Comics

This one quote has had me reassessing my goals. Challenging my thinking around them.

What if I had a better system in place to help me attain my goals?

Or better yet…

What’s systems can I create/develop to guarantee I am maximizing the full potential of my opportunities?
