Through Pen and Paper

The pen helps my thoughts to flow

With the paper capturing each as they go

Most of the time through the ebb and flow

I find a way to let go

Finding the rhythm

Through the contact made

Of pen and paper

My brain relaxes

Quiets it’s chatter

And I’m finally able to listen

To the quiet that exists

Nothing else needed

As I heed the call to put pen to paper

Some don’t understand the workflow

Of sitting down letting the fluidity of action

Take over the space between the lines

Writing past the margins

Things become clear

My mind shifts and then I’m ready to begin

Just Like Boys

In a culture of machismo

How do we teach our boys more?

That degrading women

Calling them B’s this and H–

Oh no I won’t say that

Why not show a bit of vulnerability

Because our sisters, mothers, and wives are women

We should be celebrating them

Showing them the respect they deserve, earned

But ‘naw we choose to be the bad ass

Toting guns, blasting our lives away

Spitting vulgarities even in front of the children

All for what, posturing

Trying to make ourselves bigger

Not realizing that the bigger you try to act

The smaller your going to be

How do we teach our daughters to expect more?

No man better than she or worth more than her

Show them they stand on equal footing

If he can then so can she

Mother of the Earth and all that resides in her

Giving life to all

Women deserve more from us

Compassion, motivation, love, respect

Just to name a few

Let’s raise them up

To be just like our boys

Strong, independent, determined, grounded

Because our boys

Our men will need a strong woman beside them

Today’s Reflection

My older brother Shared this with me on 02-07-2014. Today it popped up again in my email. Still rings true.

“When a man turns to Christ and seems to be getting on pretty well (in the sense that some of his bad habits are now corrected), he often feels that it would now be natural if things went fairly smoothly. When troubles come along – illnesses, money troubles, new kinds of temptation – he is disappointed.  These things, he feels, might have been necessary to rouse him and make him repent in his bad old days, but why now? Because God is forcing him on, or up, to a higher level, putting him into situations where he will have to be very much braver, or more patient, or more loving, than he ever dreamed of being before.  It seems to us all unnecessary, but that is because we have not yet had the slightest notion of the tremendous thing He means to make of us.”

C.S. Lewis

Humbled

Feeling like I’m playing a part

In a Shakespear-in my heart tragedy

Or maybe it’s something from Greek mythology

With the gods twisting fate for their entertainment

But I’m getting off the stage of this production-Scare-City

Moving across the road to a new venue

Because I know there is only One

Who’s lessons are Abundant

And will reveal themselves

I explore my conscious, soul, and heart

Have I been of little faith?

I stand before Thee

Humbled in a your Grace

 I’ll rise again

Knowing You didn’t bring me this far

To leave me in this place

Intervention

Most of us are

Using stimulants

To stimulate

Mental stillness

Wanting the world to stand still

Even for just a moment

Getting are fix from a cup of joe

Workaholic, alcoholic, sexaholic

Careful to not end up an “Ex”

Burning at both ends

Trying to make them meet

You see we’re all looking for the same thing

A connection to our true self

A better version of ourselves

With only 12 steps to go

Why don’t we ever begin

Fear of leaving behind

What will push us forward

So busy we remain idle

Choking on fumes of our own discontent

We become disconnected

Drifting away

From who we are meant to be

Stop the madness

Reach within

Bow your head and grasp your hands

Speak to He who knows the path

Let him lead and you’ll find

That the stillness you seek

Was always within your reach

Know Victory

Busting through

The Ceiling of Complexity

Sweat on my brow

Red is my complexion

Flushed with adrenaline

My heart rushes

To keep pace with my ambition

To grow

Hunger pangs keep me driven

To achieve a Bigger Future

Like Mr. Sullivan says

But this ain’t no TV show

It’s reality

Watch from the sidelines if you so desire

But I invite you into the arena

Where the battles are fought

Won and lost

Daring greatly

Like Teddy asks

Will you sit and criticize

Or join in the cause

Over a Cup of Coffee

My fingers run through my jet black hair

As I sip my double espresso

Leaning against the kitchen counter

Can’t help but smile as I watch her

And wonder what she sees in me

My life and soul are wrapped up

In all her beautiful curves

Mind sharp, spirit courageous

I thrive with her every breath

She too takes her coffee black

As I serve it to her she glances up

Silence between us

Just a moment of stillness

As all in our home begin to awaken

A connection is felt

Kids laughter enveloping us

We’re bonded

Blessed to have angels living among us
