1956 – 2016

These are the type of calls

You never want to make

The kind you just don’t want to take

Sobbing on the other side

Not knowing what’s happening on the inside

You act like you didn’t hear

Say it ain’t so

Say it’s not real

The voice gone

Holding yourself, alone

Trying to process, access

What’s been said

Head in your hands

You clasp them

Tighter saying a prayer

For your friend, uncle, colleague

Who will no longer be there

To greet you with a hi-five

No chance to say goodbye

You moved on

To a better place

Rest assured your spots

Reserved, preserved

My memories fond

Can’t believe what’s going on

Too fast, too soon

You’ve gone

But never forgotten

altMBA Flaxers

I’m stretching

Trying to get me my to flow

It’s bending

Almost breaking

Need to let go

Locking down the resistance

And his whole lizard crew

I’m taking a stance

On a contentious issue

Playing no politics

And expecting no trickle down

I begin to own mine

Mind, mindfully engaged

Trusting the process

Stepping over restrictions

And into abundance

I’m Flax-ing in the altMBA

‘Cause we all going to get this “A”

Inspired by Ryan Shelly’s song “99 Businesses” (find it here https://goo.gl/2ae4Ez) and the altMBA3 Class of Jan 2016

Book Reports vs Field Notes

Some give book reports While others write field notes
Regurgitating facts

When others are out there living that

Getting their hands dirty

They get into the thick of things

Going after that big gold ring

Experimenting like a mad scientist

To see what works

Frankenstein is in them

And lightening has struck

Alive

When pushing their luck

Leaving those around them all star-struck

As they go about picking up all those bucks
Inspired by my friend Dean Jackson’s quote, “There are those that write book reports and then they are those who wrote field notes.”

Create a New Formula

FE + A+ R = Unlimited Potential

Focused Energy combined with Ambition and Resourceful makes for Unlimited Potential for creativity. Qualities that every entrepreneur must have in order to make a dent in the world.

Seeking Out New Challenges

This New Year of 2016 I will seek out new challenges in every aspect of my life.  I will push for growth in each of the following (and are not limited to these):

Business – continue developing framework to be able scale and building the systems to support growth for the team, profitability, and contributions

Personal – no complaining about anything using same methods I used to stop cursing or saying the word “hate.”

Physical – get to my ideal weight of 175 lbs by playing more with my kids and running a marathon

Mental – continue to meditate on daily basis

Spiritual – refocus on my faith

Keep the Buck

When the buck gets passed to you put it in your pocket and take ownership of it.

If the other person doesn’t want it perhaps it’s because they don’t deserve it and that’s why they passed it on.

Know that it’s ok for you to keep it. At some point before the buck even gets passed they’ll just give it to you because you’re the one that knows what to do with it.

Recognizing Limiting Beliefs

Staring them in the face

Self-doubt and a fear of failing

Is the image reflected back at me

Kinda’ looks like me

Even moves like me

But I know that ain’t me

Shaken to my core

How do I dare to ask

How can I be more?

I ask because I can and will be

Knowing that the greatest ruse invented

Is total, brutal honesty

With Velocity I’m taking action

Swinging a bat at the man in the mirror

I’m going to make this change

Caring not for bad luck because I make my own

And I’m not going home

‘Til all the seats are vacated

I’m finally seeing the other side of fear IS nothing

And I shall not be that

Stone Mason

As your father I will be your stonecutter

You will be the architect

You’ll design as you wish

The path laid out before you

You must choose whether it will be of river rocks, cobblestone, or marble

I’ll teach you to use the tools you’ll need
But you will have to mix your own mortar

As you pass the milestones of your life

No matter it’s beauty or cost never wear a millstone around your neck

Let it sit where it resides

Dig deep inside and remember

You always have a choice and the choice is always yours

Be sure not to get jaded my love because you are a gemstone who’s luster the world will see

When you begin to build your brownstone

Build no stone walls around your garden

Let the sun shine through

Making smart use of the light that’s cast upon you

Let your mother be the cornerstone

From where you build your foundation

The stability and strength you’ll gain

Will hold any storm that comes to bear

When my gravestone is set

Come visit with joy and cheer

Knowing that your standing at my foot stone

As the capstone my dear

But understand this

As soon as that is true

Your journey has just begun

Because all through this life

I’ve proudly been the stepping stone

For you to reach greater heights

Now it’s time for you to become the stone mason
