“They tried to bury us.  They didn’t know we were seeds.” – Mexican Proverb

No matter how thick the concrete or asphalt mother nature always seems to find a way to break through.  And so should you.

Jay-Z said it best, “I’m not a businessman.  I’m a business, man.”

And that is exactly how you need to think about yourself.  Because you are in the “Business of You.”  I’ll say it again – You are in the Business of You.  And just like every business in the world you job is improving and maximizing yourself to your full potential.

So how will you scale the Business of You?

What are the skills and capabilities you need to gain to take it up a notch?

What investment will you make in yourself that will create the biggest breakthrough in your business?

It doesn’t matter what job is paying you.  When you begin treating yourself as a business you will to improve, manage, and invest in it well.  It will start to reap the profits that come with focusing on the Business of You.

Some of the rewards you might get are better pay, new opportunities, a promotion, a healthier and more satisfying life.  One of the great things about the Business of You is there are no limits to what you can make it grow.

Now is the time to take the Business of You to the next level.  I can’t wait to see where you will take it.

Better Than You

If there is someone out there in the market place doing it better than you – you have no excuse to not improve.

Study and analyze them. Find out what they are doing and get better at it then they are.

Allow their successes to motivate you toward yours.

Some of My Best Friends

I’ll admit it.  Some of my best friends live on my bookshelves.  Offering advice, experience, life lessons, and techniques to me whenever I please.  If there is a problem or answer I seek, most of the time, I can find a solution to it just by picking up a book on my shelf.

In Spite Of

It’s your job

No one elses

To keep moving forward

No matter how backward its been

No excuses about your mom or pop

It’s your job

To make it pop

No matter how many times you got dropped

Passed over or cock blocked

It’s your job

To get pass the obstacles

Climb over the walls

And crawl under the barbed wires

It’s your job

To reach the bar thats higher

Leaping off the cliff

Growing wings as you fall

Becoming a flyer

It’s your job

To McGuyver you way to the top

Becoming resourceful at the drop of a hat

Turning on a dime

Without wasting time

Because it’s your job

To reach your prime

Mixed Matched Socks

Where the heck did the missing pair go

Eaten by the washer

Or maybe dryer got’em

Mystery of life not even Sherlock can unravel

Polka dot, striped with crazy patterns

Matters not

Which are your favorites

All at risk of being sucked away into a black hole

Abyss

Never to be found

Leaving you with a pile of mixed matched socks

Wondering where they’ve been stashed

Maybe inside Pandora’s box

Boiling Water

A pot of boiling water turns a hard carrot soft and a soft egg hard.  Two different things put into the same chemical make up causes a different reaction.

This is a perfect example of how the circumstances don’t always cause the same outcome.  It is up to you to determine what the outcome will be by the reaction you make or take to the circumstances presented to you.

Like the old adage says…just because you got a ticket on the way to work does not mean you should kick the dog when you arrive home.  Remember you have power of how to react – always choose the positive action over the negative reaction.

Fear of a Blank Page

Fear of a blank page

With nothing to say

Like an animal locked up in a cage

I’m bouncing off the walls

Ready to wage a war

Upon this page

My weapon in hand – the pen

Mightier than the sword

Filled with ink

I’m stained

Looking through the glass outside

Willing myself to write whats inside

I’m picking the lock

These bars can’t hold me

Pen meets paper removing the block

Taking my liberty

I’m John Locke with this

So I can’t miss

‘Cause I’m hanging with deep thinkers

Gaining enlightenment

Fearing not the blank page

But how to remove the dark age of doubt

That’s creeping into our homes

Stealing away our children

Killing their dreams

Wanted for murder

We need to stomp it out

This doubt that persists

Exists in the mind of children

Because in life there is only one way to live

And its fully

A Secret to Tell

“The big secret is that there’s no big secret.  Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.” -Oprah Winfrey

Dig in and get dirty doing the work that matters.  Don’t wish to have – you need to build to create.  What is it that you need to focus on to create the bigger future you want?  Once you figured out what to focus on take massive action to get it.

Perceived Prestige

Perceived prestige

Is the worst kind of perception

Distorted from reality

Far removed from clarity

You can’t tell whats real

What’s fallacy

Primadonna

But no prayer can save you

Walking around with pompous flair

Nose up in the air

You bite it

Not able to face the world

Choked up in starched white shirts

You’ve been blanched

By the fact your not in Kansas anymore

And this fairy tale won’t end like before
